Hybrid – Inside IR35

Our client, a leading international banking organisation, is seeking an experienced Senior IT Project Manager to take ownership of major strategic technology and business transformation initiatives across its International Branch network.

The role sits within the Capital Markets function and will initially focus on the review and subsequent implementation of core banking capabilities, with responsibility extending to successor strategic projects. This is a high-profile position requiring someone who can operate comfortably across technology, business operations, regulatory requirements and senior stakeholder environments.

You will have end-to-end responsibility for projects from initiation through to successful delivery and acceptance, ensuring that solutions meet business objectives, regulatory requirements and agreed budgets and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead large-scale, complex and cross-border technology and business transformation programmes.
  • Take full project ownership from initiation and business case development through to implementation, acceptance and transition into business operations.
  • Manage the multi-year development and implementation of strategic IT solutions designed to address reporting and operational capability gaps.
  • Develop robust business cases, project roadmaps, delivery plans and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure project objectives are achieved while maintaining compliance with relevant regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Identify, assess and actively manage project risks, issues, dependencies and cross-project impacts.
  • Establish and maintain effective project governance and, in collaboration with Head Office in Stuttgart, implement best-practice governance standards.
  • Lead interdisciplinary, geographically dispersed project teams, including internal resources, external consultancies and technology/service providers.
  • Act as the primary project contact for senior management and key business stakeholders.
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable deliverables for technology and project teams.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings and facilitate effective communication across London, Stuttgart and other international locations.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external vendors, ensuring delivery against agreed expectations.
  • Identify roadblocks and potential delivery issues at an early stage, undertaking risk analysis and developing appropriate contingency and recovery plans.
  • Ensure solutions are aligned with the interests and requirements of both the Business and IT functions across International Branches and Head Office.
  • Manage interfaces between Front Office and Middle/Back Office support functions.
  • Maintain control of project budgets, resources, milestones and deadlines.
  • Provide oversight of Test Management and Business Readiness, ensuring implementation has minimal disruption to ongoing business activities.
  • Ensure projects are delivered efficiently, successfully and with appropriate operational handover and acceptance.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in IT Project Management, including project governance and delivery of technology solutions.
  • Experience leading large, complex and preferably international or cross-border projects.
  • Strong understanding of financial services, ideally with Capital Markets experience.
  • Good knowledge of financial analysis and regulatory requirements as they relate to IT solutions and operating models.
  • Experience developing business cases, roadmaps and delivery strategies.
  • Strong understanding of risk, dependency, issue and change management.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and third-party consultancies/service providers.
  • Experience overseeing testing, implementation and business readiness.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including the ability to engage confidently with senior management.
  • Very strong Excel skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fluent English, both written and verbal.
  • Recognised project management qualifications or credentials are preferred but not essential.
